Description
The blessing of candles for the liturgical year is traditionally done on Candlemas, February 2nd, a day formerly known as the Feast of the Purification of Mary. Blessed candles were taken home to be burned at times of prayer or need, such as for a sick call. In modern times, candles blessed on Candlemas Day are still kept in the home to be lit on birthdays, baptismal anniversaries, special occasions and in sickness.
